As a busy youth services librarian during summer reading season, I am full of bright ideas and would love to implement them. I take photos and videos and hope to upload them to social networking sites to chronicle our many activities. I do get some material onto Facebook. There just aren't enough hours in the day. I'm wondering how my partners in youth services manage their time. With shrinking budgets and high expectations, how do we manage to get all of our ideas implemented without taking too much time at home? I am constantly amazed by the multitasking world, guided by apps. So many of the young families we serve are so tech-savvy as well. They do appreciate my attempts, though.
At my library several of us take a turn posting to Facebook. Not only is the burden shared, but because we each bring our promotional biases to our postings our patrons get to hear different voices, discover unique materials and learn about a variety of library happenings. We identify ourselves at the end of each post (ie /Sarah) so if there are ever any questions later the patron or other library staff can come to us for follow up.
ReplyDeleteI find third-party apps great for managing social networks. Some of them will allow you to schedule posts, so you can space out the content without having to make time every day. The one I use is hootsuite, which works with twitter and facebook.
ReplyDeleteYes, it's hard to find time for implementation, especially during summer reading. If I don't USE the things we're learning, I'll forget about them. Hopefully, I can go into these things in greater depth in September.
ReplyDeleteHey Jane - tried to check out your wiki, but I think you've made it private so I can't view it. Might be good, at least, temporarily to make it public so we can all see the cool stuff you've done! : )
